Meet Sarah Engelhart

How did you come up with "The Sweetness of Being" chocolates? What inspired you to start this line?

I created The Sweetness of Being because I wasn't finding any honey sweetened chocolate with tonic herbs/superfoods and since that is what I wanted to eat, I figured others would too. It is my way of helping people feel love throughout the, sometimes difficult, journey of life.

How did you become interested in chocolate?

I have always loved chocolate, it is such good medicine for the heart. I learned to actually make it through Cafe Gratitude and eventually went on to become their bakery manager before creating my little chocolate bar company.

What are three words to describe your company?

Heart, Health & Sustainability.

What are three words to describe you?

Committed to Awakening.

What are some of the favorite ingredients in your chocolates and why? How do your products differ from other products out there?

We sweeten the bars with local raw wildflower honey, organic single-origin cacao from a small plantation and I use some of the highest quality tonic herbs and superfoods I can find. I adore the vendors I source every ingredient from, they have strong integrity and it is relayed through the taste.

How did you start? Did you have outside investment or grow organically?

We are growing organically and it just feels right.

What piece of advice would you pass along to other young women looking to pursue their dream?

Connect with your heart and take the leap. It is such a joy to be learning as I go. If we wait until the "perfect" moment, it might never come. Align your dream with the highest integrity you can and you will be taken far beyond what you think is possible.

Which other female leaders (or women) do you admire and why?

I adore Lynne Twist, co-founder of the Pachamama Alliance and author of "The Soul of Money". She is unstoppable in her service to humanity from the heart and makes a practice being humble. She also gets that without responsible environmental stewardship we will destroy our beautiful terrestrial home. "When you let go of trying to get more of what you don't really need, it frees up oceans of energy to make a difference with what you have." -Lynne Twist

What lifestyle choices are you making to handle the toxic chemicals being dumped into our environment and into women's beauty products?

I choose the lowest impact products I can find, organic, wildcrafted, etc. I also use a lot of essential oils... I've found ways to replace toxic chemicals in products through utilizing the potency and power of the plant kingdom which is perfectly designed to help us live healthy and sustainable lives.

What is your most important beauty tip?

Remember that the source of love resides within your own heart. And a little sunshine always helps.

What is your definition of beauty?

Being present.

What gets you out of bed in the mornings?

The sun and the opportunity to express love.

What inspires you at the moment?

Those who are willing to radically follow their heart.

What are some things you do to stay creative and inspired?

Taking a moment to connect to my breath and spending time in nature.

What steps do you take to create inner balance, connection to mystery and sacred space?

I LOVE exploring consciousness. If that is through reading beautiful ancient scriptures, or being in nature, lighting a candle and observing the flame for a few moments, listening to or playing music, inhaling the fragrance of a rose, eating a piece of chocolate. I love anything that connects me to the universal part of myself. Without it, one is not really living. I make sure to connect in this way every day and have come to really appreciate internal exploration from the heart through meditation.

The most important thing I have learned thus far is…

Being loving is the most important thing we can do.
