How to Determine Hair Qualities

1. Fine Hair: Thin strands, silky to the touch.
2. Coarse Hair: Wider strands, thicker texture.
3. High-Porosity Hair: Absorbs water quickly, dries fast.
4. Low-Porosity Hair: Absorbs water slowly, dries slowly, prone to buildup.

Color Upkeep & Root Touch-Ups

1. Once you achieve your desired coverage, maintain results by treating only root area as needed.
2. Root touch-ups are typically needed every 3–6 weeks.
3. You can use half a kit per touch-up to extend its use. If using only half, store the remaining contents in an airtight container in a dark, dry, cool place and use within 8 weeks.

How To Prep Your Hair for Best Results

1. Use our Chelating Shampoo 2-3x in the week before treatment.
2. Your last wash should be 24 hours before application.
3. For excessive buildup on non-fragile hair, leave the Chelating Shampoo on grays for 5 minutes before rinsing.
4. If you have fragile hair, rinse right away.

What To Avoid The Week Before Treatment

1. Conventional shampoos, conditioners, and styling products.
2. Oils, masques, castile soaps, and shampoo bars.
3. Skincare, SPF, and makeup near the hairline.

Do I Need To Follow The Transition Method?

If you have chemically processed hair, you must follow the Transition Method to prevent excessive darkening, uneven, or dry results. This applies if you:

1. Perm your hair
2. Chemically relax your hair
3. Dye, highlight, or bleach your hair

Before applying True Color Restore, wait until you have at least 1-2 inches of new growth.

Why Chemically Processed Hair Needs Protection:

Chemical treatments alter the internal structure of hair and damage its natural pigment framework (what we call the “hairprint” inside the cortex).

1. Processed hair is more porous, which can cause it to absorb excess pigment, leading to over-darkening, dryness, or brittleness if not protected.
2. To prevent this, all chemically treated sections must be shielded with shea butter before application.

How To Transition

- Before Application:

1. Apply a thick, even layer of African Shea Butter to all previously dyed, permed, relaxed, or bleached hair.
2. Leave only the new growth area free of shea butter—this is where Hairprint will be applied.

- After Application:

1. Rinse and condition, more than once if needed, to fully remove shea butter.
2. Avoid shampooing or heat styling 24 -48 hours after application.
3. Repeat this method until all chemically processed hair has grown out or has been trimmed away.

What You'll Need Before You Begin

1. Non-Metal Bowl: 1 quart or larger as the mixture expands.
2. Clothing & Towels: Wear dark colors or items you don’t mind staining.
3. Gloves: Wear when mixing, applying, and rinsing (included in kit).
4. Shea Butter, Olive or Coconut Oil: Apply to your forehead, ears, and back of neck to prevent skin stains
5. OxiClean Stain Remover: For cleaning any stained surfaces.

STEP 1: Prepare Your Hair

1. Apply Prepare Pretreatment Shampoo to damp hair, starting with the most resistant areas (hairline, temples, sideburns).
2. Leave on for 5-20 minutes.
3. Coarse/resistant hair → Closer to 20 min.
4. Thin/fine hair → 5-15 min., less time for sensitive scalps.
5. Rinse & towel dry.

STEP 2: Restore (First Application)

1. With gloved hands, mix 1 Restore Powder + 1 Restore Liquid using the brush.
2. The mixture will expand & turn reddish. Apply immediately to gray areas first.
3. Work through all gray areas within 5-6 minutes, pressing & massaging into the hair.
4. The mixture will turn black - this is normal! Once applied, leave on for 15-20 minutes.
5. Rinse & towel dry.
6. Repeat Step 2 (second Restore set).
7. Rinse and towel dry.

STEP 3: Complete

1. In a clean bowl, mix Complete Powder + Complete Liquid.
2. The mixture will turn purple, then black (it won’t expand as much as Restore).
3. Apply within 6 minutes.
4. Leave on for 15 minutes.
5. Rinse until water runs clear.
6. Condition with Hairprint Amla or Marine Bio-Active Conditioner.

Best For: Touching up new growth gray roots every 3-5 weeks (or as needed).

Before Your Treatment

How to Measure – Half Kit Application
Use as much Prepare as needed for your unique hair. Individual components may be purchased here. Components may vary 2-3 grams.

1. Restore Powder: 17.5 grams (16-17g is fine)
2. Restore Liquid: 56-57 grams
3. Complete Powder: 5 grams
4. Complete Liquid: 56-57 grams

STEP 1: Prepare

1. Apply Prepare Pretreatment to damp roots only (avoid the lengths).
2. Overuse on the lengths can cause temporary dryness.
3. Leave on for 5-20 minutes, then rinse.

STEP 2: Restore – First Application

1. Wearing gloves, mix half of your Restore Powder (8 grams) + Restore Liquid (28 grams) in a non-metal bowl.
2. Apply within 6 minutes to gray roots only.
3. Leave on 15-20 minutes, then rinse and towel dry.

STEP 3: Restore – Second Application

1. Mix the remaining Restore Powder & Liquid.
2. Apply quickly (within 6 minutes),
3. Leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse and towel dry.

STEP 4: Complete

1. Mix Complete Powder (5 grams) and Complete Liquid (56-57 grams).

 • Apply quickly, leave on for 15 minutes, then rinse with cool water.

STEP 5: Post-Treatment Care 

• Condition only (avoid shampoo for 24-48 hours). 

• Apply any of our Amla or Nutritive Oils for moisture if desired. 

• Do not heat-style for 24-48 hours.

STEP 1: Prepare

1. Apply Prepare Pretreatment to damp roots only (avoid the lengths).
2. Overuse on the lengths can cause temporary dryness.
3. Massage to create a lather, focusing on hairline, temples, and around ears.
4. Leave on for 15-25 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
5. For extra-resistant gray:
6. After massaging Prepare into the hair, sprinkle a small amount of baking soda onto the most stubborn gray areas and massage in.
7. Leave on for 5-15 minutes, then rinse (less time if scalp is sensitive or if hair is fragile).

STEP 2: Restore – First Application

1. Wearing gloves, mix one third of your Restore Powder (6 grams) + one third of your Restore Liquid (60 grams) in a non-metal bowl.
2. As soon as the mixture foams, apply quickly to gray roots using the brush.
3. Mixture will start red and turn black over time.
4. Start with the most stubborn areas first.
5. Press and massage the product in as you go.
6. Leave on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse and towel dry.

STEP 3: Restore – Second & Third Application

1. Repeat Step 2 two more times for a total of three Restore applications.
2. After each application:
3. Rinse hair with warm water and towel dry
4. Pat dry your bowl and brush

STEP 4: Complete

1. Mix Complete Powder (5 grams) + Complete Liquid (60 grams) in a clean bowl.
2. The mixture will have a pudding-like texture and appear darker than Restore.
3. Apply to the treatment area, or all over if you prefer.
4. Leave on for 15 minutes.
5. Rinse with cool water until the water runs clear, then condition.

What to Expect

1. Enhanced gray coverage on resistant roots.
2. If your non-gray hair is porous or damaged, it may appear darker initially—this is temporary and will soften within a week.

Hairprint True Color Restorer is a protein treatment that helps bind color to your hair, boosting shine and strength. After using it, additional protein-based products aren’t needed and may even dry out your hair if it’s already balanced. Here's how to maintain balance and prevent dryness after your treatment:

Balance Protein

1. Too much protein without moisture can cause dry or brittle hair.
2. Avoid protein-based hair products for 2-3 weeks prior to applying Hairprint if hair is sensitive to protein.
3. Limit protein treatments after application to prevent overload.

Balance Moisture

1. Use oil or a silicone-free conditioner to restore hydration if you experience temporary dryness.
2. Avoid sulfates and harsh ingredients. These can strip the hair of moisture.

Maintaining Hair Health

1. We recommend sulfate and silicone-free products.
2. Hair stays healthy when it has the right balance of protein and moisture.
3. Once you achieve desired coverage, apply Restore only to new growth.
